Kokako nesting again

IMG_1876IMG_1926

It’s that time of the year again, spring and the kokako are frisky so you know what that means – it’s time to look for nests.

Our kokako expert and champion nest finder, Gaye had a very productive weekend and found 2 nests. One of them appeared to have chicks already and was the nest of the birds who successfully fledged a chick last season. The other nest is in the final stages of construction. Gaye happened upon a bird collecting nesting material, ponga scales and dead kiekie fronds. Talk about luck!

Watch this space for updates.
